BE A LEADER WHO CARES

An effective leader helps people to achieve their goals by understanding what motivates them.

Many people mistakenly think that leaders and managers are the same. They are actually different because leaders focus on inspiring and developing people whereas managers focus on controlling people.

Leaders and managers need to influence people. Managers rely on formal power while leaders rely on personal power to influence people. People can respond in different ways when someone tries to influence them – they can resist, obey or agree happily.
The problem faced by managers is that too often, people simply obey and refrain from disagreeing with them because of fear.

Effective leaders are able to get people to accept their suggestion willingly because they tap into shared values and help people to grow. Effective leaders recognize the importance of building a collective identity because people who feel they belong to a group that gives their lives more meaning are likely to make sacrifices for the group and enjoy their work.

Creating a collective identity requires knowing what values and goals inspire people, and developing a climate where all members of the group feel a sense of purpose are respected and appreciated. Here are the core qualities of a leader

Leaders inspire trust

Trust is a complex phenomenon and its importance in work place relationships is easy to overlook. Different types of different behaviours lead to different types of trust. Being competent and reliable is a good start if you want to be seen as trustworthy, but you need to do more if you want to get enduring trust from people and not have your intentions questioned.

Leaders care

The best leaders care deeply about people, their organizations and the wider community. They transform people by personifying integrity, compassion and authenticity. The best leaders preach only what they practice, inspire others to seek greatness and share their explicit and tacit knowledge enthusiastically.

Great leaders energise people

They are able to motivate people by being role models, acting with fairness and convincing others of the worthiness of the future they envisage.

Leaders recognize needs

An effective leader recognizes the various needs of others and behaves such satisfies their need for dignity, respect and achievement. To be motivated, people need to be excited about their goals and be convinced that they can achieve goals that may seem unattainable at first. Effective leaders are exciting and inspire their people to make lots of little sacrifices so they can achieve lofty goals and maximize their potential.

Leaders influence organizational culture

Every organizational has its own particular culture. You can think of organizational culture as the way in which an organization operates and subsumes issues such as what matters to the organization and how members of the organization should behave and treat others. Effective leaders know how to built an organizational culture that can get the best out of people in a win-win way. Organizational cultures that are meritocratic and harmonious encourage people to do their very best.

Great organizational cultures make people look forward to going to work and perform at levels that surpass their personal standards and make members of organization feel that they are part of a big family that supports and nurtures them. Great organizational cultures also lead to great organizational performance.

Great leaders empower others

Work is a major part of people’s lives. It provides people not only with a means to pay their bills but also a sense of identity. Effective leaders know this and therefore ensure that their people believe that the work they do is meaningful and that they have ownership of their jobs. To empower others requires confidence that allows others to be great. Effective leaders empower people by giving them autonomy, allowing them to demonstrate their competencies, providing them with opportunities to grow, and making them feel that what they do matters to the organization and the wider community.

The secret to effective leadership is not to manage your people. There is no need in control people because most people take pride in their work and want to make a positive difference in their world. Micro-management stifles creativity, reduces trust in the leader and makes people feel unworthy. True leadership creates love for the leader, a desire to emulate the leader and a passion to do things above and beyond the call of duty.

Masih ketika convest....

2-4 october- Waktu ni ada Grand Exhibition (GREX'10). Sudah tentu saya bersemangat nak pergi sebab nak support Dhila punya program. hehe. Lepas kelas, lepas pergi chocolate fair ngan Dhila dan Sayed, saya terus pergi ke Grex. Waktu tu pergi ngan Dhila dan kak Zatil. Sempat jalan-jalan kat semua booth bersama kak Zatil. Saya pun tak tahu apa yang menarik time Grex ni tapi waktu hari last tu, saya suka tengok zapin. ;-)

Malamnya pula ada Malaysian Armed Forces in action 2010. So, tak jadi pergi ke sana. (gambar tak de ya). Seminar juga saya tak pergi sebab ia start pagi sabtu tapi saya ada kelas. So, tak dapat la nak join seminar ni.

5 october- Mock trial and Grand Forum. Kalau ikutkan hati, memang saya nak hadir semua tapi waktu hari Selasa, memang jadual saya padat. Setiap minggu macam tu. Kebetulan hari tu saya ada pre-postmortem, PGG, real postmortem. So, saya terpaksa tinggalkan mock trial sebab PGG hari tu adalah last session. Lepas habis PGG, terus pegi Grand Forum ngan Dhila. Sampai nak habis, bergegas lah ke Postmortem OC pulak. Memang setiap hari selasa mesti penat. Macam nak pengsan je.

6 oktober- konsert Palestin Tomorrow will be Free. Malam tu saya pergi ngan Wani dan Amal. Slot paling saya suka waktu konsert tu ialah time lakonan dan budak-budak nyanyi. Yang tu je saya suka. Habis konsert, saya, wani dan Amal pergi bergambar kat sculpture convest pula. Hehe

9-10 october- Intervarsity Mega Futsal Tournament (iMEF). Ni last program yang dianjurkan oleh SRC. Saya tak jejak jugak ke program ni sebab tak sempat. Pagi tadi pun pergi library dan shoot kat kulliyah engineering (haha sempat lagi). So, sekarang ni tamat lah sudah program convest'10.

Ketika CONVEST…

30 september- in conjunction program iaitu talk enhancing Aqeedah through scientific discoveries in Al-Quran (PASAK). Ia diadakan waktu malam. Plan nya memang nak pegi tapi ada pulak rehearsal oc. Jadi, tak dapat nak ke talk ni. Khabarnya, talk ni sangat bagus. Alhamdulillah..tahniah kepada penganjur. Ini sedikit gambar waktu PASAK.

1 oktober – akhirnya tibalah hari OC.

Malamnya pula, tiba lah majlis sebenar OC. Alhamdulillah semuanya berjalan lancar. Thanks auntie!! ;-) setelah berakhirnya oc malam tu, maka berakhirlah kerja saya sebagai pub & pro (walaupun malam tu saya bertindak sebagai runner special task). Sangat lega bila semuanya selesai walaupun saya sangat berserabut kepala sebab menanti nak tasmiq dan presentation keesokannya.

1-4 oktober- IIUM Chocolate Fair. Haha.. Hari kedua, saya pergi ngan Nadhila dan Sayed jugak lagi sekali. Asal pergi coklat fair je, jumpa Sayed. Muka coklat betul sayed ni..haha.. sebenarnya waktu tu saya baru je habis kelas kat KAED, kebetulan pula terserempak ngan Dhila dan Sayed, so, join je la diorang. Hari ketiga, saya tak pergi pun dan hari keempat, saya pergi lagi ngan Amal dan Ju. Sekadar jalan-jalan je, bukan beli pun. Hahah..

Begitulah sikit cerita sewaktu berlangsungnya convest.

So, saya pun join la family OC ni. Tak sangka pulak jadi macam-macam bila join benda ni. Pendek cerita, saya ngan headcom memang tak ngam. ;-)

Dalam kereta pun still saya ngan headcom macam anjing ngan kucing. Bila dia tanya, saya jawab ngan kerek, bila saya tanya, dia jawab ngan jawapan bukan-bukan. Memang tak sekepala betul saya ngan dia.

Sampai di Kuantan, kat gate UIA Kuantan, saya pun cakap, “yes! Sampai dah. Penatnya lah,” haha..waktu tu headcom ngan driver pun pandang semacam sambil cakap, “macam dia yang drive”. Huh saya peduli apa. Penat tau duduk dalam kereta tu.

Waktu nak gerak ke inside and outside campus pun, still nak bertelagah lagi.

Dua orang brothers tegur. Dia cakap dia nak handbill tu jugak. Walaupun saya agak kehairanan sebab biasanya mana ada orang nak benda-benda macam tu tapi berlainan pula ngan diorang berdua ni, Rugi pulak tak mintak tolong diorang distribute. Haha.

Waktu orang lain bergegas nak gi makan, saya masih lagi mamai. Tiba-tiba je ditegur oleh seseorang supaya pergi makan sebab masa kat situ tak lama.

Lepas makan, kereta Nissan pula bermasalah.

bila dah nak balik Gombak, ceria bukan main

Keesokannya…

Baru je ingat boleh rehat, tetiba pula kena pergi meeting pagi-pagi lagi. lepas tu, terperangkap pulak ngan hujan sehingga petang. Dahsyat jugak hujan hari tu. Lepas tu, hari-hari berikutnya berjalanlah kerja-kerja menyiapkan mascot dan sculpture. Terima kasih untuk semua warga OC. Dengan slogan ‘Work As A Team’, kita semua betul-betul macam family. Saya sangat bahagia bersama warga OC! ;-)

saya ponteng 3 kelas untuk siapkan mascot ni ;-)

Terima kasih semua atas kesusahan kepayahan membantu menyiapkan mascot. Ia sangat bernilai. ;-)

rasa cam nak peluk je mascot ni..comey sangat. haha
